2 Timothy: Gullible Women

Hello ladies, Get those Bibles out. Turn to 2 Timothy 3 and please read the entire chapter. I’d encourage you to read the entire book, it’s not long but if you only have time for the one chapter – chapter 3 is the one we’re studying today.

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—

Goodness, this sounds JUST LIKE our world today doesn’t it?

I immediately thought of “SELFIE CULTURE.” Something I have struggled with A LOT myself.

Think about social media and the fact that we have multiple apps and accounts dedicated just to OURSELVES. It’s a little much when you start pulling back the curtain and thinking more deeply about how obsessed we can be with ourselves and how our culture completely encourages it.

having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

“Having a FORM of godliness but denying it’s power.”

What does that make you think of? Did you think of a person?

In our self-obsessed world, people feel very free to have a “salad bar” religion – they pick and choose what they want. They feel free to be very “spiritual,” but sense no obligation to be Biblical. – Enduring Word

This verse in particular had me thinking of some of the VERY POPULAR women teachers, writers, and speakers we have. They seem godly but what they teach does not always line up with God’s Word.

They’re deceiving and yet, so many Christian women are obsessed with them.

Last year I had some run ins with Christian women over Rachel Hollis, a woman who I do not think any Christian woman should be learning from, and the defense for her was intense!!!

Although I could clearly use Scripture to show that Hollis is teaching unBiblical things, these women seemed to not care. They love Rachel Hollis and therefore are willing to overlook or not believe what the Bible ACTUALLY teaches.

And this is what I think Paul means about gullible women. vs. 6

They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires.

Ladies, we cannot be misled by a cute exterior, a seemingly perfect marriage and home, and a successful career. Just because a woman is popular does not mean that she is teaching Biblical doctrine.

It should be VITAL to us to be listening to women who encourage you to love Jesus more than yourself, to submit to the authority of the Word of God, and to live Holy lives as Jesus is Holy.

Any woman who is pushing a feminist agenda, who inspires SELF-LOVE, who teaches against sound doctrine…these women YOU CAN HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH!!!

having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

Don’t follow them on social media, do not buy their books, do not listen to their teachings, do not go to their conferences.

The way you can know if a woman is teaching false things is by knowing the real thing: the Word of God.

Sisters, a deceitful spirit has moved right into the church, and is deceiving women to believe they have to be equal to men in ministry, that they have to be equal in the roles of a marriage, that their dreams are just as important to God, that God wants nothing more than for you to be happy and successful. THESE THINGS ARE NOT TRUE.

They feel good. They’ll make you get tummy bubbles and excited but it’s not the call of a follower of Jesus. It’s just not.

Read on in 2 Timothy : 10 You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, 11 persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. 12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

The road is narrow to Heaven because it is not a funny, exciting, self-preserving road to walk on.

You’re picking up your cross…let’s say, you’re picking up your electric chair, your lethal injection, and following Jesus. DEAD TO SELF- ALIVE IN JESUS.

Be mindful of the books you read and who you are listening to. TEST their teachings against the Word of God.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.

Last thing, Paul says here that these gullible women are ladies who learn a lot but never understand real TRUTH.

Examine yourself sweet friend.

Are you listening more to women or the Word of God?

Are you offended when someone attacks your favorite woman speaker/writer without looking into WHY the attack is happening? Do you go to the Word of God to see if these teachers are doctrinally sound?

I know I don’t want to be a gullible woman. I want to be a woman who seeks and knows the Truth. Again, we must be women of the WORD, Not women of famous so-called Christian celebrities.
